Services
I offer a full service for the maintenance and repair of musical instruments. I also manufacture new stringed instruments.
I strive to achieve satisfaction, so it's important for me to keep in touch with the client, planning, documenting workflows. I prepare quotations based on the discussed results during personal consultations.
Making
I am most interested in making violins, violas and cellos. I begin the construction of an instrument with a thorough acoustic and aesthetic design. I use carefully selected woods. My instruments are meticulously handcrafted using traditional methods, like the work of the old classical violin making masters. I pay attention to detail. I use a fine oil varnish made from natural resins. An old played-in instrument has already developed its own sound character, while a new instrument is still in the making. It is an exciting and interesting process for the musician and violin maker to experience and influence this development.

Bow Repair
The most commonly performed bow repair is rehairing. There is no rule as to how often the hair on a bow should be changed. The production of sound with a bow is a rather complex process that depends on the adhesion of the hair to the string. For bows, tail hairs from certain horse breeds are selected, whose surface structure makes them particularly suitable for the uniform and sustainable absorption of the resin. After prolonged use, the microscopic scales on the hairs of the bow no longer fully fulfil this purpose, which impairs the playing and sound qualities of the instrument.

Restoration
I have more than ten years of experience in stringed instrument repair and restoration, and I believe that with patience and precision, an instrument that seems beyond repair can be restored.
In a restoration, I take great care and attention to the work of the old masters. I take care to preserve as much as possible of what the maker of the instrument envisioned. I use period wood materials to repair old instruments. I also make special tools for each restoration process.
When replacing the varnish, or retouching, I take special care of the original varnish of the instrument, because I know that on an old instrument it is the most valuable. I carefully document the main steps of the restoration process.

Sound Adjustment
The sound of an instrument is influenced by many things, depending on the model, the wood, the design, the tuning, the stringing, the accessories... With small interventions, it is possible to improve the sound of an instrument. Such fine tuning does not change the essence of the instrument. It is possible to approach the tuning from several angles. For example, tuning and optimising the soul and the stringing, changing the stringing, changing the stringing material or length, changing the endpin - different materials can be tried, from aluminium to carbon to titanium, different "wolftone eliminators" are available...

Maintence
An instrument is constantly changing. The bridge becomes deformed, the strings age, the tuning keys no longer move properly, the varnish becomes dirty, the body becomes more difficult to respond to the vibrations of the strings, and the sound gradually becomes duller. The player struggles more and more, and the desire to practice decreases. With periodic check-ups, these problems can be overcome and the joy of playing will return!
- The bridge becomes deformed
- Strings grow old
- The tuning keys are harder to move
- Regular checking
